Your Nespresso Vertuo is blinking nonstop? Or, it might be a Nespresso Vertuo flashing twice? Or three times? All this blinking and flashing with all these patterns of repetition and speeds make it difficult to understand what’s happening! How do you know if it is a normal Nespresso blinking or if the flashing means you have to do something?
We’ve got you covered, read on to repair a Nespresso Vertuo flashing once, twice, pausing, etc.!
If you have a different model of coffeemaker we have instructions for a Nespresso Vertuo Plus flashing or Nespresso Next blinking.
Nespresso Vertuo flashing 3 times then steady
A Nespresso Vertuo blinking three times followed by a steady light means you need to descale the machine. It will make a few more espressos but it will then lock until it is descaled: follow our instructions on the descaling of a Nespresso machine.
Nespresso Vertuo blinking and not running
Your Nespresso Vertuo is flashing and the coffeemaker isn’t running? It is a normal event: it’s heating up, reading the barcode, and wetting the pod of coffee. It will start the coffee shortly.
If your drink doesn’t start, check:
- The lever: is it in the locked position?
- The capsule or pod: is it properly inserted?
- The water tank: is there enough water?
Press the button to start a coffee.
If the Nespresso is still blinking, there might be an overheating problem due to too many coffees in a short time. Put the Nespresso in “OFF mode” to cool it down: press the button for three seconds, and press it once more to start the machine. Wait 20 minutes before making another coffee.
If you cannot go in the “OFF mode”, it means you were performing a descaling: press the button for seven seconds to exit descale.
Nespresso Vertuo flashing and pausing repeatedly
The coffeemaker won’t start and your Nespresso Vertuo is blinking and pausing: water has ran out, fill the water tank. Check that the handle is in the locked position and press the button to make your coffee.
Nespresso Vertuo blinking while running
During normal operations the Nespresso Vertuo flashes when it is running: everything is good your coffee will soon be ready.
It is also the regular sign when your Nespresso is performing a user-requested operation: emptying the system of the machine, cleaning, or descaling.
If you didn’t start one of these operations, stop the Nespresso by pressing the button. If the Nespresso is still flashing press down the button for a minimum of seven seconds to exit the special node.
Nespresso Vertuo blinking twice and pausing repeatedly
Nespresso Vertuo flashing twice with a pause and repeating has a different meaning:
- While making a coffee: check that the new coffee capsule or pod is in the correct position, make sure the handle is locked and that there is water in the machine.
- While performing a special operation (empty the system, cleaning, descaling): verify that the coffee pod has been ejected and that the machine head is locked (position of the handle).
- While Programming volume: check that no coffee capsule is present.
If Nespresso Vertuo continues flashing, reset the machine by:
- Opening the head and replacing the coffee capsule
- Disconnecting the electric plug and waiting 10 seconds to re-plug the machine
- Closing the head, turning the Nespresso ON, and starting a coffee.
I tried everything but my Nespresso Vertuo is still flashing, what can I do?
You have the option of bringing it to a repair shop. If the Nespresso is still under warranty, the manufacturer may pay for the repair:
- If the warranty is still running, enforce it.
- Bring it to the repair shop if the cost is less than a new espresso machine.
- Find a good deal for a new Nespresso.
